Professor Steven White, Board Member
Prof White teaches at the post-graduate level in Tsinghua University and is a recognised expert in Innovation, Entrepreneurship, Internationalisation and Management of Alliances. As a thought leader, he brings leading edge strategic thinking critical to the innovativeness and sustainable development of ECOSOFTT.
Prof White supervised the Masters theses of Stanley Samuel and Marcus Lim, which formed the scientific foundations of ECOSOFTT’s business model. He has since taken on a keen interest in Social Innovation in his research, teaching and community service. This includes setting up the Steven White Prize in Social Innovation together with ECOSOFTT at the St Aloysius Institute of Technology in Madhya Pradesh, India.
Prior to his academic career, Prof White worked in the Business Investment Planning department at Sumitomo Corporation, Japan. He previously taught in Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, INSEAD and China Europe International Business School. Prof White received a BSc from Duke University, Masters from the International University of Japan, and PhD in Management from Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
Amar Umap, Board Member
Amar is a senior management professional with 24 years of industry experience in the management and execution of subsea, offshore and onshore construction projects, majority of which is related to the construction of offshore/subsea facilities in the upstream oil and gas sector. A large part of this international experience involves successful execution of major subsea and offshore projects in different parts of the world i.e Asia Pacific, India, Middle East and Africa. He has worked with several multinational companies during his career, namely Technip, Global Industries, Mcdermott and currently with Fugro.
Amar was an early investor in ECOSOFTT and has observed first hand the high growth of ECOSOFTT’s operations internationally. He is passionate about social-oriented businesses that benefit underprivileged communities. With his extensive experience, he brings insights into best practices of managing engineering operations that are highly relevant to ECOSOFTT.
Amar graduated from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur with BTech (Civil Engineering) and holds an Executive MBA from INSEAD.
Sam Al-schamma, Board Member
Sam is the Founder and CEO of Smart Solutions International, a Singapore-based company that applies leading edge ICT solutions to SMART Cities and infrastructure development. Prior to his entrepreneurship career, Sam spent 26 years in engineering and management positions with Intel in Silicon Valley, Germany, the UAE and Singapore. He previously headed Intel’s Middle East operations and its Asian Education business. As a result, Sam brings an extensive network and knowledge relevant in the application of ICT to ECOSOFTT’s Water SMART systems.
Sam has invested in ECOSOFTT since 2013. He graduated with BSc (Computer Science, Hons) from King Saud University, MA (Computer Science) from University of Nebraska and Executive MBA from Tsinghua University and INSEAD.
Stanley Samuel, Founder & CEO
Stanley is the Chief Architect of our award-winning Water SMART Homes & Communities platform. He has extensive experience in water, wastewater and environmental management, including river embankment construction, rainwater harvesting, wastewater recycling and solid waste management.
Stanley is passionate about addressing the global challenge of water scarcity, shortage and quality. He also works relentlessly on inclusive social development as the Founder of SAAMARTH Social Service Organisation, our social impact programme that empowers marginalised rural communities in India.
Stanley is an Engineer by background, and holds a Bachelor’s degree in Commerce and Business Management. He earned a dual degree Executive MBA with INSEAD and Tsinghua University and a Diploma in Wastewater Treatment from the University of Chile.
Prior to starting ECOSOFTT, Stanley held senior management positions with Nestle in Europe, Latin America and Asia. An Indian national, Stanley lives in Singapore and India and has a strong global network.
Marcus Lim, Co-Founder & Managing Director
Marcus works closely with research institutions, technology innovators, businesses, NGOs and public sector agencies to develop sustainable solutions relevant to local situations. A believer that we can do well while doing good, Marcus is passionate about bridging the gap between business and social needs to address our shared causes of water, wastewater and environmental management.
Marcus graduated with a BBA (Honours) degree from the National University of Singapore, and completed a dual degree Executive MBA with INSEAD and Tsinghua University. He obtained a Diploma in Wastewater Management from the University of Chile. Marcus is a holder of the Chartered Financial Analyst, Chartered Management Accountant (UK) and Chartered Global Management Accountant designations.
Prior to co-founding ECOSOFTT, Marcus was Director of Consulting with PwC in Singapore, Hong Kong and South China. A citizen of Singapore, Marcus divides his time between Singapore, Hong Kong, India and other countries in Southeast Asia.
